Go, Judge Janet!

Yay for Judge Janet, a Democratic Judge who was elected to the Wisconsin Supreme Court in April of 2023! State Fair is targeting Virginia in 2023, but other giving circles that targeted Wisconsin this year raised funds for her campaign. Members of State Fair, including myself, wrote postcards to voters in Wisconsin to help Judge Janet Protasiewicz reach her voters. Again, I am proud of the States Project in general and, specifically, of State Fair’s activism in State Legislatures. We are helping in many ways! This is really a victory for Democracy in Wisconsin giving the State Supreme Court a liberal majority for the first time since 2008. This is a celebration and the good news.

However, currently, Republican members of the Wisconsin legislature are on the brink of putting forth articles of impeachment against Judge Janet. Constitutionally, they have no grounds for this as nothing in her conduct pre-election or in her brief time sitting on the court since her swearing in have warranted impeachment. Unfortunately, this will not matter to the Republican majority in Congress who will do whatever it takes to prevent Wisconsin voters from gaining access to reproductive and voting rights and other important initiatives. This is why our presence and work in the States Project is so vital. We are definitely fighting the good fight and must not give up if we are to win it. Onward!
