Onward! From State Fair

As the 2024 election day has finally arrived, State Fair is poised for the results with a momentous donation cycle now complete. Looking back over this year, we have experienced quite a journey as a giving circle for The States Project. Not only have we seen an incredible commitment by our donors, a growing membership, increased engagement and progress from the work that has been done, but this process has rewarded our leadership team both collectively and on a personal level. From engaging with other giving circles and politically active and minded individuals, to working together and applying creative ways to spread the message, we have been given valuable insight, which we will carry into our next cycle and beyond.

We continue to be inspired and motivated by the work and results we are seeing. At a recent leadership gathering with The States Project, we learned some encouraging details about this movement: there were over 200 active giving circles this year; over 20,000 donations; and membership comprises those from 49 states. State Fair is proud to lead memberships with over 500 members. 

Giving circles were also generously granted matched donations, which were utilised by our equally generous donors. From as little as a dollar, or with a regular subscription for the same amount as your monthly coffee expenditure, this money is crucial to the support of state legislature races as it allows The States Project to do their important electoral campaign work. We hold such positivity for the outcome of these races, thanks to both the support of our donors and what The States Project have been able to achieve. A great level of electoral work such as door knocking, work on messaging, and mailing, TV ads and media coverage has been accomplished this year.

Undoubtedly, 2024 has thrown a lot at people and from many different directions. The States Project set out this cycle by reminding us to block out the noise and stay focussed on where the roots of governance matter most - the states! It has been difficult, but when you are part of a giving circle like State Fair you are afforded the opportunity to keep that focus with a unique organisation guiding and supporting you along the way. The States Project is the largest ever state legislative effort in the country’s history. We are optimistic for the outcomes, but know that whatever happens, this work is powerful and will continue to build.
